Healing happens in many forms. In this workshop, Liv and Anita Cazzola of The Lifers will explore healing through songwriting and textile repair. They will share songs from their new album "Honesty" as they help guide everyone through repairing a garment with a hole in it. There is a connection between practicing physical repair and emotional healing, and we hope to channel this together in a soft, loving space.

Please bring a garment in need of repair, and we will provide all other materials.

  • Aquakultre's Community Listening Party

SATURDAY @ 4:30PM (MUSEUM ART GALLERY)

Aquakultre (aka Lance Sampson) is a remarkably versatile, award-winning singer-songwriter, rapper, storyteller, and visual artist from Kjipuktuk - Halifax, Nova Scotia. Raised by a single parent in Uniacke Square, Aquakultre traces his roots to historic Africville, East Preston, Weymouth Falls, Liverpool & Delaps Cove; back two hundred years to the arrival of the Black Loyalists. Several years ago, compelled by a sense of responsibility to his young children, Lance embarked on a search for his own ancestral identity. This ongoing journey of personal and creative discovery has resulted in groundbreaking works including the TV series GeneratioNS: Black Memories of Nova Scotia, the art installation Matriarchs commissioned by Nocturne: Art at Night, and his recently released album 1783. In 2025, Lance was honoured with the Black Artist Recognition Award and was appointed Artist-in-Residence at the Black Cultural Centre. Working out of the BCC, Lance is creating a larger-scale art installation work as a companion to the 1783 album.

That’s the groundwater flowing under Aquakultre’s Community Listening Party. In this interactive oral history project/listening party, Aquakultre brings along a turntable to play select tracks from 1783 as well as archival and historic music by Black Nova Scotian artists (e.g. Birch Mountain Boys, Portia White, Faith Nolan, Crack of Dawn…) that inspired him. He celebrates the forgotten greats, tells stories learned from his own family, as well as elders he met while filming in Black communities all over the province, connecting memories, themes, and historical events, and inviting participants to share their own thoughts, stories, cherished and rare musical finds.

    BRING YOUR RECORDS TO SHARE!
